Rather than try to make logical sense from a barrage of images, Lucemar de Souza treats images as "props". These images are De Souza´s gateway to personal exploration of her universe.

De Souza´s interpretations of these images are the surrealist landscapes she culls forth.

Be it a one-point perspective street scene or a rolling horizon, De Souza´s work builds
fantastic intrigue.

She does this successfully with a language of universal identifiers: street scenes, the sky,
and undulating animal forms. Modern buildings, nature, and sky are unified into sometimes haunting landscapes De Souza doesn´t offer interpretations of meaning, but rather unites the elemental visions that compose life´s unnerving moments, and from there the viewer must grapple with De Souza´s forceful vision. Her images are stark depictions of maddening landscapes. De Souza reaffirms life with her perverse environments.

“The saturation of color that dominates the surface plane in order to denote emotive tenor is highly significant. There exists an abundance of verve, and a spontaneous exuberance for the medium that is captivating and visually compelling.”
